Dr Bruce G. Weniger
Dr Bruce G. Weniger is an Associate Editor of the journal Vaccine. After medical, public health, and pediatric training, he served since 1980 in a variety of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) assignments in Atlanta, Asia, South America, and Africa in surveillance, outbreak investigation, disease control, and epidemiology training. From 1995 to 2010, he led CDC’s vaccine technology development, with a focus on safer, simpler, swifter vaccination methods that avoid the dangers and drawbacks of needle and syringe, including clinical trial of intradermal influenza vaccination by disposable-syringe jet injection. He has served on a variety of advisory/working groups in vaccine delivery for the World Health Organization, Pan American Health Organization, PATH, and various Gates-Foundation-funded and other initiatives. Past work included WHO smallpox eradication in Bangladesh, refugee health in Somalia, guinea worm eradication in West Africa, and the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV and AIDS.
